Let’s take a short break from reading reading reading and just enjoy a bit of Malaysian food porn. :D
Good Malaysian food is difficult to find in Melbourne, but many people seem to like Malaymas. The char kway teow and laksas are meant to be winners. I concede that the food here is authentically cooked, but I also generally found the dishes to be heavy on salt and MSG, making my meal less enjoyable than I’d wished. All the same, enjoy the pictures!

Har Mee $10.90
Noodle in spicy prawn stock soup served w prawn, kangkung, pork and egg

Teh Ais (Malaysian style cold white tea) $3.80

Clam Kueh Teow $12.90
Fried rice noodle w fresh clams (cockles), chinese sausage, shrimps and fishcakes

Combination Beef Hor Fun $11.90

That is SERIOUS food porn! I miss more authentic Malaysian food that we get in Australia! There’s none here in HK! You can barely find a bowl of decent laksa here lol I’ve never been to Malaysia so I can’t tell if it’s really ‘authentic’ but I’ve gone to Singapore and the food is simply better :)

The Malaysian food in Australia is a little different from back in SEAsia, and that’s what happens. But I like how I said u miss Malaysian food in Australia because that’s where you first started eating it and got your taste knowledge about it. :)
YUM! If you think it is authentic, I really want to try it.

Hi Lauren! Yes there was wok hei and correct condiments, but I really struggled w the salt levels though, so be warned. :)
My e-bf’s sister swears by this place. She loves the rendang but damn, those noodles dishes you had look just as good!

The noodles tasted okay. I find it difficult to get excited about Malaysian food in Melbourne. :p A friend has recommended Straits of Malacca in Prahran though… maybe I’ll try that, and Little Nyonya in the Docklands.
I agree with you… I had the chicken wings that were so salty I couldn’t stop drinking water. But, I agree. It’s still authentic so I wouldn’t advise against it. Would still come back if friends really wanted to come. I thought it was an off night but apparently you had a similar experience, hmmm… And so, the hunt for best Malaysian continues ;p

Very much so, Winston. I think when you’re from that region, it is really difficult to find a place that suits your palate completely. So in Melbourne I most of the time avoid eating Malaysian/Singaporean food.
the char kuey teow looks as good as those in malaysia! :)

Yes! That dish was quite alright! :)
Hi there,
Does this place take EFTPOS or Cash Only?
Thanks!
Hi Marina, that visit was about a year ago and I honestly cannot remember. You may be better off calling the establishment directly.
Great pics!
Sadly, I do have to agree with you… we went to try the char kway teow a few weeks ago and I found the ingredients to be a little stingy. The texture of the kway teow was nice though!
Best secret char kway teow in melbourne for me is still Jade Kingdom, Heidelberg Heights. Generous serve, lots of lup cheong and lard!!! :)
Thanks for the tip! I’m keen on checking out Jade Kingdom now. :)
