Fat

Let’s take a break from the practicalities of food and perhaps look at things from a different angle. I dug this poem up from my archives. Its thematics might be a little sombre, but I think it still fits into the backdrop of this blog since the event revolved around a Chinese meal.

.
FAT
.
The teapot was half finished
and our chopsticks poked at
the crackling and roast
.
to fatten you up, perhaps.
.
You see, our dialogues tend to
walk into an enchanted forest,
it feels like a night at the movies:
.
candid, civil, conceptual
.
then you spoke in passing about
your cancer and i sipped my tea
composedly, trying to tame my
fragile disquiet into remission.
.
My scientific mind, detached
coped with the jolt and got into
pseudo-swing. Inquisitive.
It asked more questions:
.
treatments, success rates
side effects, complications
.
but hearing it from you,
a friend, still noosed me
ceremonious on a window,
.
Like a fat, juicy duck.
.
And I thought you could knife me
and let my roasted succulence flow
.
to fatten you up, of course.
.
You need it.
Screw body fascism.
We’ll eat this well again soon.
.
I promise..
